On Monday night in Phoenix, Arizona, Robert Marin, 60, allegedly killed his estranged wife Heather Marin in the garage of their home, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office probable cause affidavit. The couple was informally separated and divorcing amid tensions over their teenage daughter staying with Marin. Earlier that evening, the daughter reported a verbal argument with her father, during which he expressed hatred toward Heather and made a heated phone call telling her he could no longer deal with the daughter living there. The daughter received unanswered calls from her mother at 8:39 p.m. and 9:09 p.m., retreating to her bedroom to avoid upsetting Marin further. She later heard screaming from the garage, followed by her mother pleading, 'Please don't kill me, please don't kill me,' and then approximately four gunshots around 9:30 p.m. Opening the door, she saw Heather bleeding on the ground with Robert standing over her, holding a firearm. When the daughter yelled, 'Why would you do this?!', Marin shrugged, walked out, and later returned to smoke a cigar over the body while she attempted CPR and called 911. Police noted his indifference, including lighting the cigar instead of aiding, as a factor suggesting premeditation. Officers found Marin in the garage with blood on his clothing and shoes, a firearm, holster, and spent casings. He dropped to his knees upon their arrival, was detained without statement, and had a strong odor of alcohol. The daughter reported a prior unreported domestic incident in early February 2026, where Marin threatened to shoot Heather in the head before killing himself, and shared screenshots of hateful texts between parents. Marin owns multiple unsecured firearms. He faces first-degree murder charges and is held on $2 million bond in Maricopa County Jail.
