Billie Eilish and James Cameron co-direct 3D concert film

Billie Eilish and James Cameron have collaborated on the 3D concert film 'Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)', set for release on May 8. The film captures performances from her tour in Manchester, England. Eilish describes the partnership as treating her like an equal.

Billie Eilish agreed immediately when James Cameron proposed turning her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour into a 3D concert film. By the time of filming during her four-night run in Manchester, England, in July 2025, she had completed nearly 80 shows since the tour began in September 2024. The setlist drew from albums including Hit Me Hard and Soft, Happier Than Ever and When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? along with other releases from her career. The tour, her largest to date with 106 shows across four continents, concluded in November 2025. Eilish initially resisted onstage cameras to preserve the show's integrity, responding with 'Absolutely no. Don’t want to change the show.' Cameron spent six months convincing her, arguing that 'intimacy is so much more powerful in 3D.' Their collaboration involved long creative meetings where Cameron pushed Eilish outside her comfort zone, but she co-directed to retain control over performance and lighting. Cameron praised Eilish as a 'world class performer' with a real emotional connection to fans that goes beyond pop stardom. Eilish noted, 'He really treated me like his equal.' She added that the film aims to let fans 'experience it like they were there' and capture 'this incredible bond that I share.'
