Santiago mayor Mario Desbordes sent a message to Renovación Nacional (RN) militants lamenting the defeat of a "true solidary right" in the party's internal elections. Desbordes, who resigned from RN last week after over 20 years, bid farewell from the "Derecha social" WhatsApp group. He stated he will no longer participate as he is no longer a member.
On Saturday at 22:12, Santiago mayor Mario Desbordes wrote in the "Derecha social" WhatsApp group: "I wish all the success in the world to those who won. I lament the defeat of those from a true solidary right (now everyone dresses like that), and I remain at the disposal of all (or almost all) of you".
The message alluded to the results of RN's internal elections, where Andrea Balladares was ratified as president and Katherine Martorell as general secretary. According to chat participants, Desbordes referred specifically to communal and district positions in the Metropolitan Region.
Desbordes added: "I am no longer an RN militant, and this chat is fundamentally for those who are, so I will no longer be part of it". He concluded with "A big hug to those who are truly from the social right".
Desbordes' resignation came after differences with the leadership headed by Rodrigo Galilea and Andrea Balladares, over whom he disagreed on the party's direction.
