Desbordes positively assesses New Year celebrations at Torre Entel

Santiago's mayor, Mario Desbordes, gave a positive review of the 2026 New Year celebrations at Torre Entel, which returned after seven years away. Around 300,000 people gathered in the immediate area and 500,000 overall, with no major incidents to regret. The municipality removed 120 tons of trash using over 200 workers, restoring traffic by 5:30 a.m.

On December 31 and January 1, Santiago's Torre Entel revived traditional New Year celebrations with a show featuring pyrotechnics and performances by artists such as La Noche, Américo, and Princesa Alba. This event, absent for seven years, drew a large crowd, as noted by Mayor Mario Desbordes.

"The balance is quite positive. There were no situations to lament. We estimate around 300,000 people in the immediate surroundings of Torre Entel and over 500,000 in the outer area," Desbordes stated on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

The mayor emphasized the lack of serious incidents and lessons for future events. "Lots of learning for next year, for this year already 2026, so that this comes out perfect," he added.

Regarding post-event cleanup, Desbordes noted that by 1 p.m., 120 tons of trash had been removed, a typical amount for major events. Traffic normalized by 5:30 a.m., with clean intersections. However, removing confetti from green areas posed greater challenges.

Santiago Municipality's Operations Director, Miguel Olivares, described the effort: "We worked 200 people on sweeping, plus those on machinery, because we also had to hydro-wash."
