Ethiopian cultural sports championship starts in Harar

The 23rd Ethiopian Cultural Sports Championship and 19th Cultural Sports Festival began in Harar town on March 29, 2026. Over 1,500 athletes will compete in 11 sports disciplines for one week. Officials highlighted its contribution to cultural sports development and Ethiopia's renaissance.

The opening ceremony in Harar town was attended by Harari Regional State President Ordin Bedri, Minister of Culture and Sports Desta Mekiyu Mehamed, and Ethiopian Cultural Sports Federation President Hayat Mehamed. Other senior officials were also present.

More than 1,500 athletes are participating in the festival. The competitions will take place across 11 sports disciplines over the course of one week.
