Ex-Disney CEO says he does not recall why he approved Kingdom Hearts

Former Disney chief executive Michael Eisner said he does not remember the reason he approved the Kingdom Hearts video game series during his tenure.

Eisner, who led Disney from the 1980s until 2005, made the comments at a press conference for Delphi Interactive, a company in which he is an investor. Game File reporter Stephen Totilo asked him about the decision to greenlight the Square Enix title that combines Disney characters with Final Fantasy elements.

Eisner first replied that he did not recall the project when asked directly. After being reminded that the pitch occurred in Tokyo and involved Final Fantasy plus Disney characters, he said he remembered the game but added that he did not recall why he gave approval.

The exchange took place during coverage of Delphi Interactive events, which has contributed to titles including 007 First Light. Kingdom Hearts has continued as a franchise for more than two decades since its approval.
