Former Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo was arrested on July 10 over his alleged role in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's 2024 martial law declaration.
The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Kim on July 10 after a hearing. The court cited concerns that he could destroy evidence.
Special counsel Kwon Chang-young's team accused Kim of sending messages through foreign affairs officials to the United States and other allies shortly after the Dec. 3, 2024, martial law decree. The messages reportedly described the decree as a move to protect liberal democracy.
Kim declined to answer reporters' questions upon arriving at the court. The special counsel team filed for the warrant on Tuesday on charges of playing a key role in an insurrection and abusing authority.
