Expert highlights importance of adult vaccines as HFMD cases rise

A specialist in internal medicine stressed the need for adult vaccinations during a discussion in Tangerang. The event addressed protection against infectious diseases including HFMD.

A health discussion organized by Kalventis together with Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri took place in Tangerang on Friday, 29 May 2026. Doctor Visakha Revena Irawan explained that the public remains less familiar with adult vaccines than with childhood ones.

She stated that not all vaccines provide lifelong protection so boosters are required. The doctor also noted that adults with high mobility risk carrying diseases home and transmitting them to vulnerable family members.

Attention to vaccination has increased amid HFMD cases found in various regions of Indonesia. Vaccines such as annual influenza as well as hepatitis B and pneumococcal are recommended based on individual conditions.
