Galani Coffee from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, took the top prize at the 2026 Global Coffee Awards Africa edition. The competition, held on 16 June 2026, named the roaster the overall winner across several categories. Spring Valley Coffee from Nairobi, Kenya, also earned recognition in one category.
The Africa edition featured entries from roasters across the continent. Judges conducted double-blind tastings using certified Q-graders and awarded points based on criteria such as aroma, flavour, and balance.
Galani Coffee secured the overall win along with first place in the Filter, Espresso, and Flat White Dairy categories. Its washed Limu heirloom variety earned the highest score in the Espresso Single Origin subcategory. The coffee was produced by Moplaco Trading Co.
Spring Valley Coffee won the Flat White Plant-Based Milk category. Other gold winners included Brothers Coffee Roastery from South Africa and Question Coffee from Rwanda in various subcategories.
All Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners advance to the 2026 GCA World Championship. Participants received detailed feedback on their roast profiles.
