Windrose roadmap revealed: Ashlands biome and gameplay updates incoming

Building on its early access success, Kraken Express has outlined the first major content update for pirate survival game Windrose, introducing the Ashlands biome and deeper gameplay systems—slated for delivery in at least six months.

Since launching in early access to strong reception—including over 1 million sales and 200,000 peak players—Windrose has seen fixes for launch issues like connectivity and performance. Now, in a new community update, developer Kraken Express has shared a high-level roadmap incorporating internal plans and player feedback, though some features may be cut for feasibility. More specifics are expected in a month or two.

The centerpiece is a new Ashlands biome, with the studio emphasizing quality over rapid expansion: 'Our philosophy now is to enrich the current gameplay systems.' The ambitious scope demands at least six months of development.

In the meantime, a smaller patch is incoming with over 50 fixes, quality-of-life improvements, reduced CPU/disk usage, better stability, and around 40 new building pieces.

This follows the milestone updates on launch reception and sales success. Eurogamer's Matt Wales had praised the demo's polish, saying it had his 'piratical heart aflame.'
