Kubicki attacks Strack-Zimmermann after FDP leadership vote

Wolfgang Kubicki has taken over the FDP leadership with 59.3 percent of the vote. One day after the ballot in Berlin he sharply criticized his defeated rival Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.

Kubicki received 59.3 percent of the votes at the federal party congress in Berlin on Saturday. Strack-Zimmermann, who had entered the race at short notice, received just under 40 percent.

The new chairman spoke uncompromisingly on Sunday. “Marie-Agnes, you only have 40 percent. And now you know where the hammer hangs,” he told “Bild”. He accused her of wanting to lead the party into insignificance if she celebrated her result.

On ARD Kubicki said his task was not to win anyone over. He wanted instead to ensure that voters once again took the FDP seriously.

Strack-Zimmermann appeared more conciliatory after the vote, while Kubicki stressed that the result was a clear message from the party.
