Mamah Dedeh criticizes men misusing secret marriages in religion's name

Preacher Mamah Dedeh has criticized the practice of secret marriages often misused by unfaithful men to satisfy personal desires, despite being permissible in Islamic jurisprudence. She stressed that in Indonesia, polygamy requires the first wife's permission and court approval. The statement arises amid the controversy involving Inara Rusli and Insanul Fahmi.

Jakarta – In a podcast with Denny Sumargo aired on February 23, 2026, preacher Mamah Dedeh discussed the rising public debate on secret marriages, particularly following the issue involving Inara Rusli and Insanul Fahmi.

Mamah Dedeh acknowledged that under Islamic jurisprudence, men are allowed to remarry without the first wife's permission. However, she explained that in Indonesia, national law requires husbands to meet strict conditions for polygamy, including obtaining the first wife's consent and court approval.

She highlighted how this loophole is often exploited by what she called 'hidung belang' men—unfaithful individuals—for secret marriages. "Saat ini banyak laki-laki hidung belang dia mengatasnamakan nikah siri atas nama agama tapi sebetulnya hanya pemuasan birahi semata," Mamah Dedeh stated.

Mamah Dedeh emphasized the disadvantages faced by women in such practices. In many cases, women are abandoned once the relationship sours, without clear legal protection. "Kenyataannya begitu udah kenyang ditinggal kan? Rugi perempuan," she added.

Further, she outlined risks including uncertain financial support, inheritance rights, and children's status. "Enaknya laki-laki udah kenyang ditinggal, kalau dia nggak ngasih nafkah gugat kemana? Kalau dia meninggal nggak dapat harta warisan, kalau anak kita perempuan nggak ada hak untuk jadi wali," she asserted.

She urged women not to easily accept secret marriage proposals and to safeguard their dignity by understanding the legal and social risks involved.
