Michigan nanny charged in grandfather stabbing death

A 36-year-old nanny faces first-degree murder charges after an 83-year-old man was found dead with more than 40 stab wounds in a Michigan home last year.

Samantha Rae Booth is accused of killing David Ong on October 24, 2025, while babysitting his 3-year-old granddaughter in Royal Oak. Prosecutors say Ong arrived to check on the child and was attacked in the basement with a screwdriver.

During a preliminary examination this week, Oakland County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Ljubisa Dragovic testified that Ong suffered more than 40 penetrating wounds to his head and face. The injuries also included defensive wounds on his hands and forearms, indicating he tried to protect himself during a prolonged attack.

Police found Booth in a manic state covered in blood. She allegedly attacked the child's uncle before fleeing the scene naked. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide caused by multiple sharp-force injuries.

Booth also faces charges of second-degree child abuse, assault with a dangerous weapon, and resisting police. The preliminary examination is scheduled to continue later this week.
