Minister urges expansion of citizen-focused housing construction options

Urban Development Minister Chalitu Sani said traditional housing methods cannot solve urban shortages. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited a modern technology construction site.

Minister Chalitu Sani gave explanations following today's visit in Addis Ababa regarding urban growth. She noted that corridor development implemented in 67 cities has made them clean and comfortable. She highlighted that 1.2 million houses were built in the past five years. This figure shows major improvement compared to about 160,000 houses constructed in the previous 16 to 17 years. The ministry is working on approving a housing policy for the first time. It is using methods such as 3D concrete printing and prefabricated light steel construction to expand housing accessibility.
