PM to decide on fuel price caps after review

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said Wednesday the government will decide whether to extend fuel price caps after a careful review, as the temporary measure expires this week. Introduced in mid-March to counter supply disruptions from the Middle East conflict, the system has shown positive effects despite mixed opinions. Kim made the remarks at a meeting on the crisis's economic impact.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has doubled its online content blocking orders to 24,300 in 2025, officials said, citing a surge in deepfakes and AI-generated content. Roughly 60% of these orders targeted URLs on X, formerly Twitter, with 25% for Facebook and Instagram, and 5% for YouTube.

The South Korean government will designate 10 cities as major startup hubs by next year to promote balanced regional growth and create jobs for young people. It plans to first name four cities housing major science institutes this year, followed by six more outside the greater Seoul area in 2027.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has ordered all oil refining companies operating in India to maximise the use of propane and butane streams for LPG production. This LPG will be supplied exclusively to domestic consumers through IndianOil, Hindustan Petroleum, and Bharat Petroleum. The directive aims to protect household users amid global fuel supply challenges arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

South Korea will provide support to nurture 100 defense-focused startups by 2030 to strengthen the defense industry's growth potential and better adopt cutting-edge technologies, government officials said. The blueprint, led by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, also aims to foster 30 venture companies capable of generating 100 billion won ($69 million) in yearly sales by 2030.
