Monster Train 2 announces Destiny of the Railforged DLC

Shiny Shoe and Big Fan have revealed the first paid DLC for Monster Train 2, titled Destiny of the Railforged, set to launch on February 2, 2026. The expansion introduces the Soul Savior mode along with new playable characters and enemies. A free update adding the refined Wurmkin Clan will arrive on the same date.

Monster Train 2, the acclaimed deckbuilding roguelike sequel to the original Monster Train, is receiving its biggest post-launch content update yet. Developed by Shiny Shoe, an independent studio based in San Francisco, California, and published by Big Fan, a Devolver Digital label, the game has sold over 500,000 copies since its release.

The Destiny of the Railforged DLC, priced at €9.99, will launch on February 2, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Nintendo Switch following shortly after. This first paid expansion centers on the new Soul Savior mode, where players battle a crew of bosses in any order, enduring curses from each slain beast in exchange for boosted rewards. Players equip freed Souls to cards in their deck for powerful effects, amassing power through meta progression in a challenge distinct from the base game. The cosmic setting introduces fearsome new enemies alongside familiar foes, all under the unstoppable Lifemother and her twisted children.

A key addition is the Railforged Clan, playable across all modes. Players can lead as Herzal, the blacksmith who crafted the Rail and Boneshaker train from the original Monster Train, or wield the might of Heph, creator of the Covenant Outpost and Skullcrusher engine in Monster Train 2.

Complementing the DLC, a free update on February 2 refines the Wurmkin Clan’s abilities to fit Monster Train 2’s design. Originating from the depths of hell in the first game, the Wurmkin are known for wide-reaching buffs and spells. This follows previous free updates like Echoes From the Void, enhancing strategic depth in the game’s vertical three-floor battle system, where angels and demons ally against world-ending Factions using five Clans.

The announcement, made in Los Angeles on January 28, 2026, includes a trailer showcasing the DLC features.
