Police raided three fire stations in Stockholm

Police conducted searches at three fire stations in the Stockholm area on Thursday to seize illegal IPTV equipment. A man working at one of the stations is suspected of copyright infringement. Storstockholms brandförsvar reported the suspicions to police.

On Thursday, police raided fire stations in Katarina on Södermalm, Vällingby, and Solna. The operation targeted equipment for illegal IPTV, which streams via internet without rights to the channels.

Prosecutor Jenna Sourander confirms that police seized items and secured evidence. “A man is suspected. He works at one of the fire stations,” she says. The man is alleged to have stored and sold the equipment at one or more stations. The investigation links sellers and buyers. A conviction for copyright infringement could result in fines or up to two years in prison.

Björn Westerdahl, communications chief at Storstockholms brandförsvar, says they reported the suspicions themselves. “We thought it was important to act immediately. We cannot accept crime or suspicion of crime,” he states. The fire service cooperated closely with police ahead of the searches.

Sourander declined to detail the seizures, but the probe continues. No further raids on fire stations are planned at this time.
