A newborn girl was found murdered in a pedestrian tunnel in Brunna in 2002. After 24 years police still lack answers about who left the infant there.
On a bitterly cold December night in 2002 a couple walking their dog found a naked newborn wrapped in a pillowcase in a pedestrian tunnel in Brunna, Upplands-Bro. The girl, about 50 centimetres long and weighing 3.5 kilograms, still had the umbilical cord attached and carried DNA traces from a woman. Police determined she had been murdered.
The infant was buried at Kungsängen churchyard with a gravestone marked “Okänt flickebarn, 2002”. The DNA profile has been sent to international databases through Prüm and Interpol with no matches so far. A DNA-based image shows an average woman with dark hair from the Middle East and brown eyes.
A Bible was found at the scene 18 days later. Police have checked Bible schools, hospitals and other nearby locations without result. Suspects have been detained but released. Since July 2025 DNA genealogy may be used to find perpetrators, but the method has not yet been applied.
