Politico poll finds MAGA-aligned Trump backers more supportive of Israel and Netanyahu than other Trump voters

A Politico survey conducted by Public First in mid-April found notable differences among Trump voters on Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, with self-identified MAGA supporters expressing more approving views than Trump voters who do not identify with the MAGA label.

A new Politico poll suggests Israel is becoming a sharper dividing line inside the Republican coalition, particularly between voters who embrace the "Make America Great Again" label and other supporters of President Donald Trump.

The survey, conducted by the research firm Public First from April 11-14, 2026, polled 2,035 U.S. adults. According to Politico’s reporting on the results, about half of MAGA-identifying Trump voters said they back Israel and approve of the actions of Israel’s current government, compared with 29% of non-MAGA Trump voters.

On the war in Gaza, the poll found 41% of MAGA Trump voters said Israel is justified in its military campaign, versus 31% of non-MAGA Trump voters, highlighting a split not just between parties but within Trump’s own support base.

The findings underscore the political risks for Republicans as immigration crackdowns spark backlash in some communities and demands for escalation from parts of the right.

Pro-Israel and Jewish Republican groups that previously opposed Brandon Herrera are sitting out his bid for Texas' 23rd congressional district. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) praised President Donald Trump and Israel over Operation Epic Fury—described by the White House as a joint U.S. military campaign with partners against Iran—and said he was “baffled” by Democrats who opposed the strikes. The operation’s claimed toll, including the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been widely reported, though detailed casualty breakdowns remain difficult to independently verify.
