Students at Liceo de Hombres Manuel Montt in Puerto Montt found graffiti in a bathroom threatening a shooting on Tuesday, April 7. The municipality will file a lawsuit and will not cancel classes, instead holding reflection sessions. Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt called for calm and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
Students at Liceo de Hombres Manuel Montt discovered graffiti in a bathroom this week reading “Tiroteo el martes 07/04/26,” or “Shooting on Tuesday 07/04/26.” The Puerto Montt municipality announced it will file a criminal complaint through the Municipal Penal Unit (UPM).
Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt notified the Public Ministry, requested Carabineros intervention, and support from Public Security and the Municipal Education Administration Department (DAEM). “We will identify these individuals; my hand doesn't tremble in these matters and we will do justice. We will not let them intimidate our community and students,” the mayor stated, assuring that all security measures are in place to ensure classes continue.
DAEM interim chief Faustino Villagra confirmed classes will not be canceled but reflection sessions on school coexistence will be held with the Coexistence Department, Life Skills Program, Carabineros, and the Delegation. Villagra praised the students for promptly alerting authorities.
This incident follows similar threats reported this week in schools in the Maule, Biobío, and Antofagasta regions, where some institutions suspended classes.
