Former MC Alger coach Rhulani Mokwena is receiving consular assistance from South Africa's mission in Algeria after his arrest over alleged violation of currency regulations. He was stopped by customs at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers while trying to leave with undeclared foreign currency.
Customs officials at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers stopped 39-year-old Rhulani Mokwena over allegations of attempting to leave the country with undeclared foreign currency, leading to his arrest for violating Algeria's currency regulations. The South African mission in Algeria confirmed it is in touch with Mokwena and providing consular assistance. Mokwena recently parted ways with MC Alger, the Algerian champions, just eight months into his contract. He is linking up with Al-Ittihad SC in Libya, reuniting with compatriot and former player Thembinkosi Lorch. The deal makes him one of Africa's highest-paid club coaches.
