Sifuna not eyeing presidency, focus on ousting Ruto first

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna says he has not decided on a 2027 elective position, prioritizing building a strong movement to defeat President William Ruto. In a Spice FM interview, he attributed his efforts to citizens' interests and lessons from Raila Odinga. He denied claims of foreign funding.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna stated he has not yet decided which position to seek in the 2027 General Election, despite popularity from his Linda Mwananchi wing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking yesterday on Spice FM, Sifuna emphasized his primary goal is building a strong movement to defeat President William Ruto's government. “Sifuna to be president? It's not about Sifuna. First we build a strong movement. We need enough numbers to win the government. Personal ambitions we will address later,” he said.

He added that his approach was inspired by the late Raila Odinga, who urged him to stand with citizens without fear. “Raila taught me that if you are on the side of the people, you have nothing to fear,” Sifuna said, claiming Odinga never supported Ruto's re-election bid.

Sifuna criticized the government for unfulfilled promises and misusing projects, stating youth demand freedom and constitutional governance. He rebuked Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen over funding claims and denied receiving money from former President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying contributions come from members and private donors.
