SL offers refunds for annual tickets ahead of monthly pass price cut

Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) proposes that holders of annual or 90-day tickets can redeem them for refunds. This follows a reduction in monthly pass prices starting July 1.

From July 1 the price of SL monthly passes drops to 530 kronor thanks to a 6.5 billion kronor state subsidy. To ensure the roughly 16 000 private individuals who paid for annual or 90-day tickets are not disadvantaged SL wants to offer refunds for the remaining period.

A traveler with an annual ticket can save about 400 kronor per month by switching to the subsidized monthly pass. The offer also covers tickets that expire in 2027.

SL has sold annual tickets worth 142 million kronor this year. Officials state in the proposal that it is a reasonable measure for the most loyal travelers. The proposal is expected to be voted on Tuesday in the municipal traffic committee.

How the refunds will be handled in practice remains unclear. SL assesses that any revenue loss is outweighed by goodwill.
