Sony launches Playerbase for fans to appear in Gran Turismo 7

Sony has introduced its Playerbase initiative, allowing the company's biggest fans to have their likeness scanned and featured in PlayStation Studios games. The program begins with Gran Turismo 7, with applications now open in select markets worldwide. The winner will travel to Los Angeles for a face scan and additional custom content creation.

Sony announced the Playerbase initiative on Monday, targeting its most dedicated fans for inclusion in upcoming PlayStation Studios titles. The program kicks off with Gran Turismo 7, where selected participants can appear as in-game character portraits for a limited time, presented similarly to existing characters in the game. Applications are available in select markets across America, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. Applicants must submit a questionnaire including their name, age, location, and a personal story about PlayStation's impact on their life—such as receiving a controller from a sibling, unwrapping a first console, attending a midnight launch, or connecting with a game's character or soundtrack. Sony stated, 'Playerbase is a unique opportunity for PlayStation's biggest fans to step into some of the biggest game worlds by having their likeness scanned.' A limited number of finalists will advance to video interviews detailing their personal background and connection to PlayStation. The ultimate winner receives an invitation to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for face scanning, plus a meeting with a designer to create a custom Fantasy Logo and a one-of-a-kind vehicle livery. This custom content will be permanently added to Gran Turismo 7's Showcase menu. Sony plans to expand Playerbase to additional PlayStation Studios games in the near future.
