Supreme Court rejects appeal in Tore Hedman murder case

Sweden's Supreme Court has swiftly denied a request for a new trial from the man convicted of murdering former policeman Tore Hedman in Mjälga last May. This final ruling upholds the 18-year prison sentence previously confirmed by the court of appeal.

The 31-year-old man, convicted by Falu District Court in December for killing 75-year-old Tore Hedman with repeated hammer blows to the head, had his 18-year sentence upheld by the court of appeal last month. He admitted to the act but had appealed to the Supreme Court seeking a review.

The Supreme Court rejected the request promptly, closing the case at the highest level. The murder in the Mjälga suburb (near Falun and Borlänge) drew local attention in Dalarna due to Hedman's background as a former policeman and the brutality of the attack.
