Bengt wins appeals court ruling on erroneous parking fine

The appeals court has ruled in favor of 68-year-old Bengt Stage in a dispute over a 600-kronor parking fine from Malmö city. He had overpaid by 41 kronor yet was initially convicted in the lower court.

Bengt Stage paid 241 kronor to park in Malmö, exceeding the required tariff by 41 kronor. Despite the overpayment the city issued a 600-kronor fine.

The district court upheld the city's decision but the appeals court ruled the payment sufficient. The court noted that paying a higher tariff does not constitute a violation.

Stage intends to donate the refunded 600 kronor to the Barncancerfonden charity. He called the case unnecessary hassle.
