Texas woman charged in crash that paralyzed boy

A Texas woman has been charged in connection with a February crash that left a 7-year-old boy permanently paralyzed. Anissa Cantrell Bell, 45, faces multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bell was arrested Tuesday in Waco and released on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond. Authorities say she drove northbound on Gholson Road at high speed in a no-passing zone before colliding head-on with another vehicle. The crash occurred around 11 p.m. on Feb. 20 near the intersection with Hicks Drive. An accident reconstruction found Bell was traveling 67 mph in a 45 mph zone moments before impact, according to an arrest affidavit. The boy suffered an internal decapitation that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Officers reported finding a half-empty tequila bottle in Bell's vehicle and later measured her blood-alcohol level at 0.22. Bell faces one count of first-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
