Texas woman charged with murder in golf cart death of boyfriend

A 59-year-old Texas woman faces a murder charge after allegedly striking her live-in boyfriend with a modified golf cart during an argument and leaving him unattended overnight. Gene Donald Kaping, 71, died from his injuries days later. Lisa Ann Guetter is held on $1 million bond in Wood County Jail.

Lisa Ann Guetter was arrested this week and charged with murder in the death of her 71-year-old boyfriend, Gene Donald Kaping, according to court records. Deputies from the Wood County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in Quitman, Texas, on April 3 to find Kaping unresponsive on the ground in front of the residence with severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he died after about four days of treatment, police said. Guetter told investigators the incident occurred on April 2 while the couple was drinking. She claimed she was driving a 'souped-up' golf cart at around 15 mph when Kaping was hit, appearing to 'hydroplane' away and land near rocks. After an argument, Kaping lay down in the driveway and told her not to call for help, she said. Guetter did not check on him for about 12 hours, finding him still unresponsive the next morning. Investigators determined the golf cart's brakes functioned properly and that Guetter had driven in loops in the driveway beforehand, making her aware of Kaping's position. A search of the home uncovered a handwritten note from Guetter reading, 'Why let him be there? Why not shoot him?' Kaping's sister described Guetter to authorities as 'controlling, mean and evil,' especially when drinking. The affidavit also noted a previous domestic violence incident in which Guetter allegedly attacked Kaping with a knife.
