Truck driver arrested after accident kills highway worker in Hong Kong

Hong Kong police arrested a truck driver after his vehicle struck a parked patrol car on Cheung Tsing Highway, killing a 64-year-old highway worker and injuring five others, including four South Korean tourists.

The accident occurred around 5.10pm on Thursday on a closed section of the Cheung Tsing Highway in Tsing Yi. A minivan carrying four South Korean tourists pulled over after a tyre burst. A highway worker arrived in a patrol vehicle, parked behind it, and stood between the two vehicles.

A medium-sized goods vehicle then hit the patrol vehicle from behind, pushing it into the minivan. The worker was dragged underneath and later died at Princess Margaret Hospital. The minivan driver and four tourists suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the same hospital.

Police arrested the truck driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. The incident took place on a lane that had been closed to traffic at the time.
