The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that it will award $1.73 billion in grants to repair roads, bridges, and maritime infrastructure. The funding comes through the Department of Transportation's BUILD program and shifts priorities away from previous focuses on bike lanes and equity initiatives.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy stated that the department is investing in projects that connect Americans to job opportunities and bolster national security. Around 77 percent of the funds, or $1.3 billion, will support roads and bridges, while 7 percent will go to maritime infrastructure.

No portion of the grants will fund bike lanes or pedestrian projects. This marks a change from the prior administration, when about 20 percent supported such initiatives.

The program was previously renamed RAISE under the Biden administration but has been restored to its original BUILD designation. Duffy recently directed officials to eliminate DEI and climate-related policies from department activities.
