Trump nominates former Oklahoma trooper to lead ICE

President Trump has nominated Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and Marine, to serve as director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The move comes after months of scrutiny of the agency and follows the resignation of the previous acting director.

Trump announced the nomination on his Truth Social platform, calling Schroyer a "PATRIOT with real operational experience" who loves the ICE workforce. Schroyer currently works as senior adviser to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and oversees immigration enforcement coordination.

Mullin praised the choice on X, highlighting Schroyer's more than 29 years of law enforcement experience. He urged quick Senate confirmation to help carry out the administration's immigration enforcement goals.

ICE has operated without a Senate-confirmed director since the Obama administration. Todd Lyons resigned as acting director at the end of May, and David Venturella has led the agency in an acting capacity since June.
