Unifil holds tribute ceremony for three fallen TNI personnel in Beirut

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) held a solemn ceremony at Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut on Thursday (April 2, 2026), honoring three fallen Indonesian National Army (TNI) personnel. The event served as a farewell before their bodies are repatriated to Indonesia. Unifil Mission Head Maj. Gen. Diodato Abagnara offered deep condolences to their families and the TNI.

The ceremony was attended by Maj. Gen. Diodato Abagnara, UN Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon Imran Riza, Brig. Gen. Firas Tarchichi representing Lebanon's Defense Minister, Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Dicky Komarm, and representatives of the Indonesian Unifil contingent.

The three personnel—posthumously Capt. Inf. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sgt. Maj. Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Cpl. Farizal Rhomadon—were awarded UN and Lebanese Armed Forces medals for their service in southern Lebanon.

Maj. Gen. Abagnara praised their dedication, stating, "They came here from far away, with one purpose—to serve peace. They did it bravely. They did it honorably. They did it until the end." To the families, he added, "No words can take away your pain. But know this, they are not forgotten."

They died in incidents on March 29 and 30, 2026: Cpl. Rhomadon (28) from a projectile explosion at a Unifil post near Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29 evening, while Capt. Zulmi (33) and Sgt. Maj. Ichwan (26) perished in a roadside blast near Bani Hayyan on March 30.

The bodies are currently safe at Saida Hospital in Lebanon and scheduled for repatriation to Indonesia on Friday (April 3) or Saturday (April 4), according to TNI Brig. Gen. Rico Ricardo Sirait from the Defense Ministry.
