The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has announced it will file a recourse with the electoral judge against Pierre Ippolito, deputy for commerce in Nice’s new city council under Éric Ciotti. It deems his business activities incompatible with his municipal role. Ippolito downplays concerns and vows to respond.
The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has filed a recourse with the electoral judge targeting Pierre Ippolito, deputy for businesses, commerce, economic development, and higher education in Éric Ciotti’s newly installed Nice city council.
It considers his private entrepreneurial activities, including as former president of the Alpes-Maritimes employers’ union, to make him an “entrepreneur de service municipal” under article L. 231 of the electoral code. Ippolito holds public contracts with the city of Nice and the metropolis, not terminated six months before the municipal election.
In February 2026, the administrative court had annulled the prefecture’s refusal to register the UDR list, ordering its acceptance without ruling on ineligibility. “This new procedure does not worry me, just as the first one did not,” Ippolito said. “We will respond to this recourse in the same way: by giving the judge everything he needs to close this matter definitively.”
Marc Concas, former deputy for ethics and a lawyer, has also filed with the judge, stating Ippolito “should have left his representational roles.” Recourses are admissible until April 6. Ineligibility would force his withdrawal from the city council, with no new election.
