A speedboat capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam on Saturday, killing 15 Indian tourists. The boat was traveling from Hon Rut Island to An Thoi Port when it overturned about 400 meters from Hon Rut Ngoi Island around 1 p.m. local time.
Among the rescued were 17 Indian tourists, three crew members and one attendant. The deceased included 10 from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. The Indian embassy confirmed that most of the rescued are stable but two remain in serious condition in intensive care.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on X and wished for the quick recovery of the injured. Rahul Gandhi also conveyed condolences and urged full cooperation with Vietnamese authorities for relief efforts. The embassy has set up helplines in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
