CDU candidate Marcus Hoffmann has won the runoff election for mayor of Aue-Bad Schlema against the candidate of the „Freie Sachsen“.

Hoffmann received 5,007 votes and prevailed against Stefan Hartung, who obtained 4,499 votes. The city announced the result on June 7, 2026. More than 15,000 citizens had been called to vote. Hartung, aged 37 and a former NPD functionary, had led after the first round on May 10 with 29 percent. He failed to reach an absolute majority, however. With Hoffmann’s victory the town of around 19,000 inhabitants in the Erzgebirge remains under CDU control. Incumbent mayor Heinrich Kohl is leaving office for age reasons. Hoffmann, 41 and employed in the municipal building department, is married and has two children.
