Octavian Ursu re-elected as mayor of Görlitz

Octavian Ursu of the CDU has won the mayoral election in Görlitz in the runoff against AfD candidate Sebastian Wippel.

The election took place last Sunday. Ursu thus defended his office against Wippel, who had already lost to him in the runoff seven years ago.

A serious accident during the campaign additionally helped the incumbent. The AfD did not achieve the necessary majority despite its strong regional presence.

Ursu is a Görlitz resident with Romanian roots and won as the CDU candidate.
