The Contraloría General de la República determined that former Security Minister Trinidad Steinert exceeded her powers by requesting a reserved report from the PDI on transfers of officials linked to a Clan Chen investigation.
The ruling issued on July 2, 2026, states that Steinert's request did not fit her legal functions and violated the duty of abstention due to her prior role as prosecutor in Iquique.
The government, through biminister Claudio Alvarado and current minister Martín Arrau, respected the decision but acknowledged Steinert's contribution during her tenure. Arrau stressed they will align the ministry's role with strategic coordination.
Opposition lawmakers including Tatiana Urrutia (Frente Amplio), Patricio Pinilla (DC) and Raúl Leiva (PS) are considering a special investigative commission and do not rule out a constitutional accusation. Senate President Paulina Núñez called for focusing on people's real problems.
