The 72-year-old former president, admitted on December 20, 2025, for severe abdominal pain, underwent successful appendectomy surgery that evening. Her hospitalization was complicated by postoperative ileus, treated with intravenous antibiotics, peritoneal drainage, and close monitoring.
By December 29, a medical report indicated tolerance to a soft diet, gas elimination, and positive catharsis. With approval from Tribunal Oral Federal N°2, her house arrest—stemming from a six-year conviction in the 'Vialidad' case, upheld by the Supreme Court, including a lifetime public office ban and asset forfeiture—was adjusted to allow extended hospital stay.
On discharge day, drainage was removed, antibiotics switched to oral, and no further inpatient care deemed necessary. She will follow up with her personal medical team at her apartment on San José 1111.
