Egyptian Minister Badr Abdelatty and Mozambican Foreign Minister Maria Lucas met on Monday to discuss economic, security and pharmaceutical cooperation.
The meeting marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Mozambique. The ministers focused on encouraging Egyptian private sector involvement in Mozambique’s development plans covering infrastructure, energy, education and capacity building.
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tamim Khalaf said Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s support for African countries facing health challenges. The two sides explored expanding cooperation in pharmaceutical manufacturing and exchanging expertise between drug authorities to broaden medicine distribution across the Southern African Development Community.
Abdelatty also called for stronger security and military ties, highlighting Egyptian counter-terrorism expertise. Training programmes offered by Al-Azhar, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution were identified as avenues for capacity building.
The ministers exchanged views on stability across Africa with emphasis on the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes region. They agreed to maintain coordination at bilateral and multilateral levels and to speed up the third session of their joint committee.
