The government of President José Antonio Kast submitted amendments that extend processing deadlines and confirm the return of the Comité de Ministros. The Senate Environment Committee approved the proposals on Tuesday.
The amendments change the response deadlines of sectoral bodies to one year for all administrative acts of the State. Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz explained that the change responded to legislators' criticisms on constitutionality and tight deadlines.
The committee approved by four votes and one abstention the reinstatement of the Comité de Ministros, which must meet at least ten times a year. For claimed Environmental Impact Assessments, claims are limited to prior observations or essential procedural flaws.
Changes were incorporated on aquaculture relocations, allowing micro-relocations of up to 350 meters without environmental impact study, but only once. The chamber vote on the bill was set for July 15.
