The São Paulo gubernatorial pre-candidate criticized the Bolsonaro family and urged Lula's campaign to go beyond reconstruction. PT president Edinho Silva said the anti-system discourse belongs to the left.
Fernando Haddad (PT), former minister and São Paulo gubernatorial pre-candidate, spoke at the closing of the PT congress in Brasília on Sunday (26). He referred to Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), son of ex-President Jair Bolsonaro—who is imprisoned for leading a coup attempt after the 2022 elections—as 'Bolsonarinho' and Lula's main 2026 rival.
"O Lula vai concorrer com o 'Bolsonarinho', com o filho do Jair Bolsonaro, uma família que só entregou o caos para esse país, desde sempre", Haddad said, referencing the rachadinha scheme and the pandemic. He argued Lula's campaign for a fourth term should offer a program "beyond what we have already done." "We cannot stay only in reconstruction. We have to advance," he added.
PT president Edinho Silva also addressed the event. He stated that "the response to the anti-system is in the left, not in the right, not in fascism." He criticized mandatory amendments and negotiations between the Executive and Legislative as a "market of deals."
Edinho emphasized national sovereignty as the fundamental debate and accused the Bolsonaro family of wanting to hand over rare earth reserves to Donald Trump. Lula did not attend due to a medical procedure on April 24 to remove a basal cell carcinoma.
