Inflation in Belo Horizonte rises 0.58 percent in first June quadrissemana

The IPCA-BH recorded a 0.58 percent rise in the first quadrissemana of June, more than double May’s variation. The advance was driven by electricity and services, according to Fundação IPEAD.

Fundação IPEAD, linked to UFMG, reported that the Broad Consumer Price Index for Belo Horizonte rose 0.58 percent in the first quadrissemana of June. In May the indicator had closed at 0.28 percent.

The main drivers were the residential electricity tariff, up 3.18 percent, plus excursions, which increased 4.66 percent, and automobile repair, which rose 7.53 percent. Fuels moved in the opposite direction, with gasoline falling 3.73 percent and ethanol 11.83 percent.

Over 12 months the IPCA-BH reached 3.65 percent, virtually unchanged from May. The local result remained below the national variation, which stayed close to 4.39 percent to 4.6 percent in the same period.

The institution’s bulletin notes that inflation remains a challenge for the Brazilian economy in 2026, despite the resilience of consumption and the labor market.
