Ibrahima Konate addressed speculation about his future following Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Everton. Speaking to reporters, the France international said, “There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement.” He added, “For sure, there is a big chance that I’m here next season. This is what I’ve always wanted.” Konate hinted at earlier private discussions with sporting director Richard Hughes, suggesting more details would emerge soon to quiet rumors. The centre-back's current contract runs out at season's end, fueling talk of a potential move to Real Madrid. However, Konate appears set to commit long-term to Liverpool on Merseyside. Liverpool's season has been disappointing by their standards, ending without trophies after Champions League elimination by Paris Saint-Germain. Konate dealt with personal loss, returning early from compassionate leave after his father's death in January and scoring in a 4-1 win over Newcastle United. Despite leading by seven points over sixth-placed Chelsea for a top-five Premier League finish and Champions League qualification, Konate stated, “It’s been a bad season for the standards of Liverpool.
