Argentine tennis player Mariano Navone claimed the ATP 250 Bucharest title by defeating Spain's Daniel Mérida 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in the final. This victory marks his first ATP Tour title, following two lost finals in 2024. The match, lasting nearly two and a half hours, took place at Romania's Centro Nacional de Tenis Simona Halep.
Mariano Navone, from 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires province, displayed solid play and physical endurance in a match featuring fourteen service breaks. His opponent committed 58 unforced errors, allowing the Argentine to dominate the first set, lose the second, and clinch the third in a tight finish.
Navone, who has been coached by Alberto Mancini since February after parting with Andrés Dellatorre, had reached the top 30 in 2024 before dropping to 99th due to foot injuries. This positive streak includes ten wins in his last eleven matches, plus a Challenger title in Punta Cana.
The win will lift Navone 18 spots in the ATP rankings, from 60th to 42nd starting Monday, April 6, 2026. He becomes the fourth Argentine champion in Bucharest, following Franco Davin, José Acasuso, and Juan Ignacio Chela.
On the same Sunday, Román Burruchaga, ranked 77th, lost the Houston ATP final to Tommy Paul 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, while Marco Trungelliti fell short in Marrakech.
