Police shot suspect RD alias D (25) during an arrest in North Jakarta after he resisted. The suspect admitted spontaneously killing ojol driver ATP due to needing wedding funds.
A joint team from Subdit Resmob Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya arrested RD at a rented house in Kamal Muara, Penjaringan, early Tuesday morning on 14 July 2026 at 00.30 WIB. When being secured, the suspect resisted so police took measured firm action.
Kanit V Subdit Resmob Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner of Police Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, said victim ATP was not targeted beforehand. The perpetrator chose the victim spontaneously upon seeing him asleep at an ojol basecamp with his motorbike parked nearby.
Arief explained RD's initial intention was suicide because he was confused about funding his wedding. He abandoned that and tried to steal the victim's motorbike key, but the victim woke up and resisted so RD stabbed his neck once.
The suspect is now detained at Polda Metro Jaya headquarters and charged under Article 458 and/or Article 479 Paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
