Police summon Jesslyn's father over alleged kidnapping case

Police in Central Jakarta have summoned the father of golfer Jesslyn Wijaya Lay along with two other family members for questioning. The move comes even though the alleged kidnapping report was withdrawn on 19 July 2026.

Investigators found flight manifest data showing Jesslyn departed for Kuala Lumpur via Semarang on 14 July 2026 with two family members. The alleged kidnapping was reported to have occurred while she attended her grandmother's birthday at a restaurant in the Mangga Besar area of Central Jakarta.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Central Jakarta Metro Police Ajun Komisaris Besar Polisi Roby Heri Saputra stated the probe continues to confirm the victim's safety and determine if a crime occurred. He noted that withdrawal of the report does not automatically end the process.

Roby emphasised that police still require statements from those who travelled with Jesslyn. The comments were made on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, one day after the initial report was confirmed.
