President William Ruto has appointed former Bumula Member of Parliament Moses Wekesa Mwambu Mabonga as the new chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
The appointment was announced through a Kenya Gazette notice dated July 24, 2026, and takes effect immediately for a three-year term. Mabonga replaces Adan Haji Ali, who had been moved to chair the Public Benefit Organisations Regulatory Authority by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi also appointed Faith Akiru Kuno to the EPRA board for three years and revoked the appointment of Jennipher Nawoi Long'or. President Ruto further revoked the appointment of Thuo Mathenge as chairperson of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation and reappointed Gilbert Maluki as non-executive chairperson of the National Irrigation Authority board.
Several other Cabinet Secretaries, including Treasury's John Mbadi, Health's Aden Duale, and Trade's Kinyanjui, announced additional appointments and reappointments to state boards and institutions. Most appointees will serve three-year terms as part of ongoing leadership changes across public agencies.
