President William Ruto has appointed Samuel Muchina Nyaga as a member of the Nairobi Rivers Commission effective 22 July 2026. The appointment comes after Nyaga lost the Ol Kalou by-election on 16 July.

President William Ruto appointed Samuel Muchina Nyaga to the Nairobi Rivers Commission through a special gazette notice on 22 July 2026. The notice revoked the appointment of Amos Chege Mugo and named Nyaga as the replacement member.

Nyaga who contested the Ol Kalou by-election for the United Democratic Alliance lost to Democracy for Citizens Party candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau on 16 July. He visited State House on the morning of 22 July where the president assigned him to oversee ongoing projects in the constituency.

The projects include 36 electrification initiatives housing construction for vulnerable families and borehole completion in every ward. Additional works cover a university project an upgrade of JM Hospital to Level 5 a stadium and roads.

As a commission member Nyaga will coordinate efforts to rehabilitate the Nairobi River Basin monitor environmental compliance and mobilise resources for long-term regeneration.
