President Sheinbaum sends four reform initiatives to deputies

President Claudia Sheinbaum sent four reform proposals to the Chamber of Deputies during Tuesday's session. The initiatives cover gender equality, discrimination in the Navy, a commemorative coin, and recognition for Margarita Maza Parada. Each was referred to specific committees for review.

At the start of the ordinary session in the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday, President Claudia Sheinbaum submitted four reform initiatives. The first aims to strengthen substantive equality and gender perspective, enhancing protections for women, adolescents, girls, and boys across various secondary laws. This proposal updates the responsibilities of the Secretariat of Women, established a year ago, and affects laws such as the General Law for Equality between Women and Men, the Law on Access of Women to a Life Free of Violence, the National Code of Civil and Family Procedures, the Federal Law of Workers in the Service of the State, as well as the general laws on Social Development, Health, and Education. It also impacts the Social Security Law, Migration Law, General Law on the Rights of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents, Law of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers, Planning Law, Housing Law, Federal Labor Law, Federal Copyright Law, Federal Law on Protection of Industrial Property, and General Law of Culture and Cultural Rights. This initiative was sent to the Gender Equality Committee.

The second promotes equality and non-discrimination in naval personnel promotions, updating the legal framework to ensure substantive equality, legal security, and professionalization in the Mexican Navy. It was referred to the Navy Committee.

The third outlines the features of a 20-peso commemorative coin for the 200th anniversary of the Consolidation of Mexico's Independence at Sea, sent to the Finance and Public Credit Committee.

Lastly, the fourth declares 2026 as the Year of Margarita Maza Parada, wife of Benito Juárez, honoring her legacy, including her critical stance in the United States against groups seeking to subordinate the national struggle to foreign interests. This was forwarded to the Interior and Population Committee.
