Runner dies during Paris race, others hospitalized in Maisons-Alfort

A 53-year-old runner in the La Pyrénéenne race in Paris's 20th arrondissement died Sunday after a cardiac malaise. About ten runners from another race in Maisons-Alfort were hospitalized in absolute emergency the same day.

The man was taking part in the 11th edition of La Pyrénéenne, an annual race organized around the town hall of the 20th arrondissement. He suffered a malaise and could not be resuscitated on site despite the intervention of emergency services. The City of Paris attributed the death to a cardiac malaise. Temperatures reached about 33 degrees on Sunday.

Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire expressed his immense sadness on X, praising the mobilization of emergency services and sending his thoughts to the victim's family. Relatives described the runner as very trained.

In Maisons-Alfort in Val-de-Marne, firefighters recorded ten absolute emergencies and six mild malaises during an event that included a 10 km and a half-marathon. The race was immediately halted at the request of the firefighters.
